Pickleball is a paddleball sport that combines elements of badminton, table tennis, and tennis. Two or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball, much like a wiffle ball, with 26–40 round holes, over a net. The sport shares features of other racket sports: the dimensions and layout of a badminton court, and a net and rules somewhat similar to tennis, with several modifications. The ball used is similar to a wiffle ball, but slightly smaller. The lower net and wiffle ball allow the game to be accessible to people of all ages and abilities, while still allowing more competitive players to test their mettle. TWO BALL: Arrange the class with partners about 6-8 feet apart . Scatter as many tennis balls/wiffleballs in the gym area. On a signal the partners must go to as many different balls in a 30 second time limit. After two catches they move to the next ball.
Another difference in equipment comes with the balls. When pickleball was first invented, its creators played with Wiffle balls. Since then, players rally with smaller balls that are plastic and riddled with holes. Paddle tennis, not quite so out there, uses rubber balls with less pressure than the standard tennis ball. Two of the three players play first while the third player waits and referees. The player who begins with the ball, throws it against the wall. The ball must strike the wall above the six feet line on gymnasium wall. You can use tape to mark this height. The ball must be caught on the fly or on the first bounce by the opposing player.
